I would stop my friends and make them listen to passages, and I have read many pages several times and was awed by the profound beauty of Mr. Roberts' writing. I read about two or three novels per week, and yet it took me about two weeks to read Shantaram. I wanted to savor every word, no matter how painful, no matter how disturbing. He made the ugly seem beautiful, and the evil inevitable. Yet, somehow, led us through it with grace, and helped us grow along with him. I already have five friends lined up to read my copy. I am DESPERATE to read The Mountain Shadow. I just finished Shantaram, and it is by far my favorite book.
