The Mountain Shadow – Shantaram sequel from Gregory David Roberts
by admin on Apr.15, 2009, under Uncategorized
That’s right. In a recent discussion on our forum, it was revealed that the eventual sequel to Shantaram would be named The Mountain Shadow which is now available on amazon.co.uk for pre-order.
The description from amazon.co.uk says this about the new novel:
A sequel to SHANTARAM but equally a standalone novel, The Mountain Shadow follows Lin on further adventures in shadowy worlds and cultures. It is a novel about seeking identity, love, meaning, purpose, home, even the secret of life…As the story begins, Lin has found happiness and love, but when he gets a call that a friend is in danger, he has no choice but to go to his aid, even though he knows that leaving this paradise puts everything at risk, including himself and his lover. When he arrives to fulfil his obligation, he enters a room with eight men: each will play a significant role in the story that follows. One will become a friend, one an enemy, one will try to kill Lin, one will be killed by another…Some characters appeared in Shantaram, others are introduced for the first time, including Navida Der, a half-Irish, half-Indian detective, and Edras, a philosopher with fundamental beliefs. Gregory David Roberts is an extraordinarily gifted writer whose stories are richly rewarding on many levels. Like Shantaram, The Mountain Shadow will be a compelling adventure story with a profound message at its heart.
We’d like to know if you are anticipating this new novel from Gregory, and if you are you can comment below, but don’t stop there -join our forum now and tell us what you thought about Shantaram.

I am very excited about reading this new novel. Where can I get a hardcover edition and will there be any book signings in the United States?

No idea what is planned Sarah, but I should imagine that this sequel to Shantaram will probably come out in hardback first.
As for signings, again no idea! Hopefully Greg will do some as and when the time allows.
If I hear anything at all, I’ll be sure to post about it here.

To all you readers of decent literature out there. If you have not read Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts then where have you been? This is by far the best modern book that I have read. Go out and buy it.

Hi all,
I loved Shantaram and think about the book often as there has not been a book such as this that has inspired me for a long time. His writing, as we all know, is brilliant and I too am excited for his next book.
I hope you all know that they have started working on the Shantaram movie, Johnny Depp will be stared as Lin Baba. I have mixed feeling about the movie as I know it will not live up to the book, but at least it is Johnny Depp filling the big shoes of the big white man in India.
Cheers,
Brad

I was recommended Shantaram by my sister’s boyfriend, and shortly after starting i knew it would become my favourite book. I’ve been anticipating this sequel ever since, and am intrigued by the fact there is a a partly-Irish character, as I myself am Irish.

I just finished reading Shantaram for the first time and it became my favorite novel from pretty much page 1. This is such great news that he is about to publish a sequel. I was hoping he would. Also looking forward to the movie. I just hope that Depp can capture the complexities of Lin’s character and that they do a good job immersing the audience into the world of India like Roberts did so well. As a Potter-phile, I of course know that this is impossible, but one can still hope.

Never have I been so eager to read a book. I have read Shantaram twice, and never has a writer delivered something so powerful. It is unquestionably my favorite book and I have been able to share it with friends and loved ones. Can’t wait to read this! Gregory David Roberts writes beautifully and I am very happy he has more to share with readers.

When will we get the book, the mountain shadow, in India? Delhi, specifically.

I just finished Shantaram, and it is by far my favorite book. I would stop my friends and make them listen to passages, and I have read many pages several times and was awed by the profound beauty of Mr. Roberts’ writing. I read about two or three novels per week, and yet it took me about two weeks to read Shantaram. I wanted to savor every word, no matter how painful, no matter how disturbing. He made the ugly seem beautiful, and the evil inevitable. Yet, somehow, led us through it with grace, and helped us grow along with him. I already have five friends lined up to read my copy. I am DESPERATE to read The Mountain Shadow.

Froso,
Yes, I believe it is said by Gregory David Roberts to be a trilogy, but the first book has not been written yet. Mountain Shadow is the next book which will be published.
